Micah has never liked having people sing the “Happy Birthday to You” song to him. No one has ever been able to finish the song in his presence; he has always firmly (and quite loudly) put a stop to what he considers an annoying infringement on his special day.
On the other hand, he doesn’t mind when it’s sung to others. Such was the case when he joined his extended family in singing to his cousin at her eighteenth birthday party last weekend.
Elle, with her long auburn hair parted in the middle, was sitting at the head of the table, her face glowing from the candles lit atop the round, white-frosted cake. We’d surrounded her–this daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and sister–priming her to be serenaded.
Someone initiated the song, and the rest of us joined in…ever so politely, ever so gently.
Then suddenly, a deep, loud voice rose. It grew powerful, opera-like.
It was coming from the tallest, blondest cousin, one arm rising in step with his voice. It was, of course, Micah.
Micah letting his true colors show. Micah letting “his freak flag fly.” Micah allowing his theatrical side to come into view.
It is a blessing for Micah that he can share his true personality with those he loves the most.
And a wonderful gift for all of us.
This post is so beautifully written and I love Micah’s energy always but especially in this moment!💕. Loved seeing all of you.
